Free North Dakota (ND) CDL Hazardous Materials practice test 2026

H endorsement: placarding, shipping papers and the segregation table.

What’s different in North Dakota

Most Hazardous Materials questions are the same federal material in every state. 2 questions in the app are written for North Dakota alone, from the North Dakota Commercial Driver License Manual (North Dakota Information section).

Two North Dakota questions, answer shown

In North Dakota, how often must the hazmat written test and background check be repeated?

  1. At every CDL renewal(correct answer)
  2. Every 10 years
  3. Once, at first issuance
  4. Every two years

To keep the H endorsement, the federal background check and the written test must be passed each time the CDL is renewed.

When may a North Dakota Class A holder haul placarded diesel without an H endorsement?

  1. Only when the fuel is being delivered to the driver's own farm
  2. Never, because every placarded load requires an H endorsement in North Dakota
  3. Any time the load is under 3,000 gallons and properly placarded
  4. As an employee of a farm service business hauling 1,000 gallons or less(correct answer)

A Class A holder working for a custom harvester, agrichemical business, farm retail outlet or livestock feeder may haul 1,000 gallons or less of diesel in a service vehicle marked with a flammable or combustible placard, within the state of domicile.

A sample question

One example, answer shown. Practicing the rest happens in the app.

Except for bulk packaging, hazard classes listed in Table 2 require placards only when the total amount transported reaches:

  1. 2,205 pounds or more
  2. Any amount at all
  3. 1,001 pounds or more(correct answer)
  4. 500 pounds or more

Table 2 materials need placards once the aggregate gross weight, including packaging, reaches 1,001 pounds. Table 1 materials must be placarded in any amount.
