Wyoming (WY) CDL manual 2026
Reading the manual is not the same as passing the test on it. Practice it instead: every chapter below has real test questions you can answer right here, plus what Wyoming does its own way.
Practice the manual, chapter by chapter
State manuals are built on the same national model, chapter for chapter. One thing to know from each chapter, then real questions from it to answer — tap an option to check yourself.

Introduction
Everyone
You must notify your employer within two business days if your license is suspended, revoked, or canceled, or if you are disqualified from driving.
This chapter has 26 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance.A passenger endorsement is required to drive a vehicle designed to transport how many people?
The threshold is a vehicle designed to carry 16 or more passengers, and the driver counts toward that total.
Manual section 1.2
What is the minimum disqualification for a first violation of an out-of-service order?
Ignoring an out-of-service order costs at least 90 days on the first occasion, which is longer than two serious traffic violations combined.
Manual section 1.3.4
- 2
Driving Safely
Everyone
That space can be very small when a vehicle is heavily loaded; this is often a problem on dirt roads and in unpaved yards.
This chapter has 290 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. When does the manual tell you to be especially alert for drunk and sleepy drivers?
Late night is when both impairments are most common, so the clues to look for matter most in those hours.
Manual section 2.8.3
Which wheel components does the manual say are dangerous when missing?
Each of these holds the wheel assembly together. Any one of them missing puts the remaining hardware under load it was not designed to carry alone.
Manual section 2.1.3
- 3
Transporting Cargo Safely
Everyone
Blocking is used in the front, back, and/or sides of a piece of cargo to keep it from sliding; bracing goes from the upper part of the cargo to the floor and/or walls of the cargo compartment.
This chapter has 26 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. When is a high center of gravity most dangerous?
Both situations put sideways force into a load whose weight sits high. That is the combination that tips a vehicle over.
Manual section 3.2.3
Which cargo responsibility remains yours even when someone else loads the vehicle?
Inspecting the cargo, spotting overloads and bad balance, and knowing it is secured and not blocking your view or your emergency equipment all stay with the driver.
Manual section 3
- 4
Transporting Passengers
P endorsement (bus)
Roof hatches may be locked partially open for fresh air, but this should not be left as a regular practice.
This chapter has 98 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance.A standee line is painted on the floor of buses that allow standing riders. What does this line mark?
The standee line is a line on the floor near the driver, and no rider may stand forward of it while the bus is in motion. It keeps standing passengers out of the driver's view and working space.
Manual section 4.3
On buses designed to allow standing, how is the standee line marked?
A two-inch line on the floor, or some other equally clear means, shows riders how far forward they may stand.
Manual section 4.2.3
- 5
Air Brakes
Any vehicle with air brakes
Governor cut-in around 100 psi.
This chapter has 147 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. What are the two halves of a dual air brake system called?
One half is called primary and the other secondary, and each has its own tanks, lines, and gauge reading.
Manual section 5.2
How is the cab control for a front brake limiting valve normally marked?
The two positions are labeled normal and slippery, reflecting the mistaken belief that cutting front brake pressure helped on poor surfaces.
Manual section 5.1.13
- 6
Combination Vehicles
Class A
A tug test means gently pulling the tractor forward against the locked trailer brakes to check that the coupling holds.
This chapter has 118 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. Why is a fully loaded tractor-trailer more likely to roll over in a curve than a passenger car?
The higher a vehicle's center of gravity sits, the more easily it tips in a curve, and a loaded combination carries much of its weight well above the roadway.
Manual section 6.1.1
What steering habit best protects a doubles driver from tipping the rear trailer through rearward amplification?
Gentle, gradual steering keeps the motion transferred to the trailers small, preventing the amplified swing that can tip the rearmost unit.
Manual section 6.1.2
- 7
Doubles and Triples
T endorsement
Couple the second and third trailers first, then attach the tractor and first trailer.
This chapter has 98 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. You are finishing the coupling of a set of doubles. What is the correct final position of the rear trailer's landing gear?
Once the coupling is made and tested, the landing gear must come all the way up so it cannot strike the road, a curb, or a railroad crossing.
Manual section 7.2.1
When hooking air lines between the first trailer and the converter dolly, how do you avoid crossing them?
Service and emergency lines are color coded, commonly blue for service and red for emergency, so matching like to like prevents crossed lines.
Manual section 7.2
- 8
Tank Vehicles
N endorsement
The tank vehicle endorsement is earned by passing a knowledge test only, with no separate skills test.
This chapter has 62 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance.A tanker driver wants to avoid skids, which are especially dangerous when a liquid load is pushing on the tank. What causes most skids?
Most skids happen when a driver is going too fast for conditions and then brakes, steers, or accelerates harder than the available traction allows.
Manual section 8.3
Compared with most other kinds of cargo, why does a load of liquid in a tank make a truck easier to roll over?
A cargo tank places the load well above the pavement, giving the vehicle a high center of gravity. The higher the weight rides, the less sideways force it takes to tip the vehicle over.
Manual section 8.2
- 9
Hazardous Materials
H endorsement
Carriers must make detailed written reports within 30 days of an incident.
This chapter has 234 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance.Hazardous materials rules are built around three broad goals. Which set below matches the intent of those rules?
The regulations exist to keep the product in its container, tell everyone what the hazard is, and make sure the people and equipment moving it are safe.
Manual section 9.1
Which classes may not be carried as overhang or tailgate loads?
Explosives, flammable solids, and oxidizers must ride in a closed cargo space unless the packages themselves are fire and water resistant or under a resistant tarp.
Manual section 9.4.1
- 10
School Buses
S endorsement
When possible, assign two responsible, older student assistants to each emergency exit and teach them how to assist the other students off the bus.
This chapter has 98 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. How far can the blind spot behind a school bus extend, depending on the bus's size?
The rear blind spot runs from roughly 50 to 150 feet and can reach 400 feet on a longer, wider bus. Nothing in that space is visible without the side mirrors.
Manual section 10.1.3
During an emergency on the route, who is primarily responsible for deciding whether students evacuate the bus or stay on board?
The driver is in charge of the bus and its passengers and must weigh the hazards and decide whether staying aboard or evacuating is safer.
Manual section 10.3
- 11
Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection
Everyone (skills test)
Inspect for damaged, cracked, or bent rims; rims cannot have welding repairs.
This chapter has 200 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. What color must the reflectors mounted on the rear of a trailer be during your inspection?
Reflectors on the rear of the vehicle must be red; amber reflectors belong on the front and sides toward the front.
Manual section 11.2.7
Which kit, besides the first aid kit, must a school bus carry?
The body fluid cleanup kit is inspected alongside the first aid kit, and both are checked for an unbroken seal.
Manual section 11.3
What’s different in Wyoming
Most of every state manual is the same federal material. These are the parts that are not.
- Low air warning in the air brakes chapter (written test): before pressure drops below 60 psi.
- A warning signal you can see must come on before the air pressure in the tanks falls below 60 psi, or one half the compressor governor cutout pressure on older vehicles.
- Full-time students attending the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college who have a valid license from another state do not need a Wyoming license.
