Nebraska (NE) CDL manual 2026
Reading the manual is not the same as passing the test on it. Practice it instead: every chapter below has real test questions you can answer right here, plus what Nebraska does its own way.
Practice the manual, chapter by chapter
State manuals are built on the same national model, chapter for chapter. One thing to know from each chapter, then real questions from it to answer — tap an option to check yourself.
- 1
Introduction
Everyone
If your privilege to operate your personal vehicle is revoked, cancelled, or suspended due to alcohol, controlled substance or felony violations, you will lose your CDL for one year.
This chapter has 26 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. How quickly must you tell your employer that your license has been suspended?
A suspension, revocation, cancellation, or disqualification is reported within two business days, far faster than the 30 days allowed for a conviction.
Manual section 1.4
What penalty may a court impose for holding more than one license?
The court may fine you up to $5,000 or put you in jail, keep your home state license, and return the others.
Manual section 1.4
- 2
Driving Safely
Everyone
The size of your vehicle may make it hard for drivers behind you to see hazards ahead; if you see a hazard that will require slowing down, warn the drivers behind by flashing your brake lights.
This chapter has 290 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. You cannot avoid driving through a stretch of dense fog. Which headlight setting should you use?
Fog reflects light back toward the driver, so low beams provide better visibility than high beams, which bounce off the water droplets and create glare.
Manual section 2.12
You are the first driver to stop at a crash scene on a busy highway. After parking your vehicle safely, what should you do first?
The first duty at a crash scene is preventing a second collision, so the area must be protected with warning devices before anything else is attempted.
Manual section 2.20
- 3
Transporting Cargo Safely
Everyone
A high center of gravity is most dangerous in curves, or if you have to swerve to avoid a hazard.
This chapter has 26 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. What can happen to brakes that are forced to work too hard by an overload?
Overloading lengthens stopping distance and works the brakes beyond what they were designed for, and brakes worked that hard can fail outright.
Manual section 3.2.2
What is the main purpose of the diamond-shaped placards displayed on some trucks and trailers?
Hazmat placards communicate the hazard class of the cargo so that emergency responders and other road users know the risk the vehicle carries.
Manual section 3.5
- 4
Transporting Passengers
P endorsement (bus)
Drivers should watch for and refuse hazardous items riders try to bring aboard, such as car batteries or gasoline.
This chapter has 98 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. While checking the outside of your bus, you find an emergency exit standing open. What should you do?
Open emergency exits get closed during the outside check, along with any open access panels, before the bus moves.
Manual section 4.1.2
You have finished loading at a curbside stop and are ready to rejoin traffic in your transit bus. What should you do first?
Before leaving a stop, the driver must check the mirrors to make sure the path is clear of vehicles, bicycles, and people walking near the bus.
Manual section 4.3
- 5
Air Brakes
Any vehicle with air brakes
A low air pressure warning signal is required on vehicles with air brakes, and a signal you can see must come on before pressure falls below the specified level.
This chapter has 148 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. How long a crack in a brake drum or disc is acceptable during inspection?
The limit is set against the friction area itself: nothing longer than half its width. A crack past that point can let the drum come apart under braking heat.
Manual section 5.3.2
What are the two halves of a dual air brake system called?
One half is called primary and the other secondary, and each has its own tanks, lines, and gauge reading.
Manual section 5.2
- 6
Combination Vehicles
Class A
The tractor protection valve closes automatically when air pressure drops into the 20 to 45 psi range.
This chapter has 118 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. While backing into a dock you lose track of how much room remains behind the trailer. What should you do?
The GOAL rule, Get Out And Look, means physically checking the area whenever you are unsure of clearance while backing.
Manual section 6.1.6
What rearward amplification figure does the manual give for triples?
Triples come in at 3.5, meaning the last trailer can be rolled about three and a half times as easily as a five-axle tractor in the same quick maneuver.
Manual section 6.1.2
- 7
Doubles and Triples
T endorsement
Drivers of long combinations must look far ahead so maneuvers can be gradual.
This chapter has 98 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance.Which air lines must continue past the converter dolly to reach the second trailer of a set of doubles?
Every trailer in the combination needs both a service line for normal braking and an emergency line for supply and emergency braking.
Manual section 7.2
Among common commercial combinations, which is generally the most likely to whip and roll its rearmost trailer during a sudden maneuver?
The more trailers and hitch points a combination has, the more each steering input is amplified, and triples have the most of both.
Manual section 7.1
- 8
Tank Vehicles
N endorsement
Vapor recovery equipment captures vapors during loading and delivery so they are not released into the air.
This chapter has 62 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. What does the manual say wet roads do to normal stopping distance?
Wet pavement doubles the distance needed, which is a large allowance to find in traffic when the load behind you is also surging.
Manual section 8.3.4
A tanker driver wants to avoid skids, which are especially dangerous when a liquid load is pushing on the tank. What causes most skids?
Most skids happen when a driver is going too fast for conditions and then brakes, steers, or accelerates harder than the available traction allows.
Manual section 8.3
- 9
Hazardous Materials
H endorsement
Hazardous materials employers must keep a record of training for each employee as long as that employee is working with hazardous materials, and for 90 days thereafter.
This chapter has 234 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. What makes a container a cargo tank rather than a portable tank?
Cargo tanks are bulk packaging built onto the vehicle and stay there through loading and unloading. Portable tanks are the ones that come off.
Manual section 9.5
Hazardous materials rules are built around three broad goals. Which set below matches the intent of those rules?
The regulations exist to keep the product in its container, tell everyone what the hazard is, and make sure the people and equipment moving it are safe.
Manual section 9.1
- 10
School Buses
S endorsement
The large flat sides of a school bus act like a sail, letting crosswinds push the bus sideways.
This chapter has 98 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. What does a sign mounted below the cross-buck tell you?
Where the road crosses more than one set of tracks, a sign under the cross-buck gives the count, so you know how much rail you must clear.
Manual section 10.4.2
How far can the blind spot behind a school bus extend, depending on the bus's size?
The rear blind spot runs from roughly 50 to 150 feet and can reach 400 feet on a longer, wider bus. Nothing in that space is visible without the side mirrors.
Manual section 10.1.3
- 11
Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection
Everyone (skills test)
Cuts and bulges may cause tire failure, blowouts, and sudden loss of control.
This chapter has 200 more questions. Practice them in the app and see your pass chance. What do rust streaks or shiny metal trails radiating out from a wheel's lug nuts usually indicate?
Rust trails or shiny streaks spreading from lug nuts are a warning sign that the nuts have loosened and the wheel is moving slightly on its studs.
Manual section 11.2.5
Which lights should you turn on before starting the exterior walk-around portion of your inspection?
Before the walk-around, turn on the low beam headlights and four-way emergency flashers so you can confirm those lamps work as you circle the vehicle.
Manual section 11.2.7
What’s different in Nebraska
Most of every state manual is the same federal material. These are the parts that are not.
- Skills test: the modernized skills test.
- Checklist on the pre-trip: Yes. You may use a blank checklist as a memory aid during the vehicle inspection.
- Low air warning in the pre-trip inspection (skills test): before pressure drops below 55 psi.
- Failure to perform the Air Brake Check or Hydraulic Brake Check properly is scored as an automatic failure of the entire Vehicle Inspection Test.
- Principal Address Verification: present two documents with your Nebraska principal address listed, including magazines issued within the last 90 days; a P.O. Box will not be accepted.
